My Story
As someone who has struggled in the past to connect to their gender and Latine American identity, I spent a lot of my former years sheltering my individuality and limiting my interactions with others. It wasn’t until the first semester of university that I started to express my individuality and understanding aspects of myself that had been hidden for so long. I have come a long way since then, and a large part of that is thanks to the support from my family, friends, and community I joined at UF. Since then, I’ve become much more comfortable with my gender expression, despite the adversities trans people face in this country. Similarly, I’ve built a stronger connection to my Latine identity in recent years; I hope to foster this connection by visiting Puerto Rico in the near future and investing more time engaging with its indigenous history.

I am an undergraduate pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida, majoring in Anthropology and minoring in Latin American Studies. I thoroughly enjoy studying ceramics, human osteology, art, and material culture in archaeological contexts. I am currently conducting research at UF through the University Scholars Program, which will culminate in an honors thesis by the end of the Spring. My research is focused in the North Coast of Peru, in which I am investigating the ceramic assemblages from the Chimú Empire from 11th-15th century CE. I plan on continuing my education through a graduate program, where I hope to contribute to technological advances in ceramic analysis and our current understanding of pre-Hispanic North Coast civilizations.
